   Laser Level Technology
The Laser Liquid Level Instrument generates an optical pulse. This pulse is reflected off an object or liquid and returns to the system receiver. A high-speed counter measures the time of flight from the start pulse to the return pulse. This time is used to determine the distance from the sensor to the material.

Laser Level Sensors are mostly used for measuring levels of bulk solids and opaque liquids. 80% of these units are used for dry solids, including plastics such as PE, PP, PVC, and EPS. They employ Class I lasers, which are safe for the human eye. As most devices use laser of wavelength 1 micron, as opposed to radar's wavelength of 10,000+ microns, it reportedly has virtually no beam divergence, which means no false echoes, and easily measures surfaces at an angle. The narrow laser beam can pass through screens. It can traverse distances of up to 120 meters.

Laser Level Technology Advantages:

  • Probably the best system for distance measurements
  • Non contact

Laser Level Technology Disadvantages:

  • More suitable for long distance measurements
  • Reflections are very weak
  • Low resolution
  • Shadowing
  • Expensive
